Third Annual Kaminda di Arte Kicks Off This Weekend

The 2012/2013 season of Kaminda di Arte, (Art Tour) will begin with a festive kick-off this Saturday, November 17, 2012.  All eleven participating artists will be present between 3:00 and 5:00 PM at Boudoir Restaurant at the Royal Palm Galleries in Kralendijk.  Live music will be provided by Back on Track.

The kick-off event will be a great time to mingle with the artists and have the opportunity to talk with them about their work.  The annual Kaminda di Arte Tour offers a wide variety in the types of art offered by Bonaire’s local artisans and painters.

There are three new artists in the exhibition.  Helen Dovale is one of the new participants, and, although born in America, she’s lived on Curaçao for many years and for twenty years now on Bonaire. Her specialty is wood collages and one of her works of art with African warriors won a first prize at an art festival in Orlando, Florida.  She graduated from the famous Pratt Institute, and her collages and larger wooden statues can be seen at the courthouse, the museum, the Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, and in many residences on the island. Helen signs her work as Elena.

Margreet Faassen-Pijpers is also participating this year. She’s been living on Bonaire for ten years. After studying at the Graphic School and Window-Dressing School, in Utrecht she completed her study in art history and drawing/painting at the Crabeth College in Gouda. She’s held expositions in Gouda and Oudekerk a/d IJssel with landscapes and still life in the aquarelle technique, and she works with acrylic paints on marine-plywood.

Entirely new on Bonaire is Alexandra Jansen, who emigrated from the Netherlands in April of this year. The beautiful nature and friendly people are a wonderful inspiration to her. After attending the art academy in Belgium, she mainly worked with abstract paintings, but she’s also skilled with the airbrush to make realistic pictures.

Then, starting on Sunday, November 18th, the Kaminda begins, when all artists participating open their homes, studios, and workshops from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM, every third Sunday of the month, through March, 2013.  A flyer for the event, highlighting the artists and their addresses is available by clicking here (in PDF format).  This year, the following artists are presenting:  Wolmoet Jansen, Alejandra Riquelme, Janis Huckaby Baillie, Ans Klein Heerenbrink, Fred v.d. Broek, Luz Aida Franco-Wesselius, Jose Smit, Henk Roozendaal, Alexandra Jansen, Helen Dovale, and Margreet Faassen-Pijpers.  (Source:  Kaminda di Arte)
