The Ninth Special Olympics Walk-a-Thon to Be Held Sunday April 3, 2011
The always popular Walk-a-Thon will be held this year on Sunday April 3, 2011. It is a 30 kilometer event (18.6 miles) and follows the historical route from the slave huts to Rincon. Proceeds from the event go to the local chapter of Special Olympics.
The event starts at 5:00 AM with stops for water and snacks scheduled every five kilometers (3 miles). The final stop is at Karpata, which is being sponsored by the Bonaire Bikers Club. Food and drinks will be available at the finish line for all participants and a lunch will be served at Pasdia Karino Rincon from 9:00 AM through 12:30 PM. Participants may walk, run, bicycle or roller blade the route, and they may choose to do the entire route or just a portion. EHBO will provide a van for bikes of any participants who are unable to complete the ride.
The entry fee is $15 per person which includes an event t-shirt along with water and snacks along the route. Registration cards are available in advance at TCB, Chat ‘n Browse, Lovers Ice Cream or a Board Member of the Special Olympics.
Participants may pick up their t-shirt at City Cafe on Friday April 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM or Saturday April 2nd from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
