The Annual Lora (Parrot) Count is Scheduled for January 27, 2007

The annual count of loras will be held on January 27th, 2007, and is organized by the Foundation to Save the Lora, Scouting, STINAPA, and DROB.  These associations are looking for volunteers to assist with the count, which will be held simultaneously all over the island.

All those on Bonaire, especially those who may be staying in the kunukus, can easily assist with this count.  If anyone knows of a place where the lora spend the night, please telephone any of the numbers below so that these locations can be included in the count.

This year the count will begin early in the morning on January 27th, and a very exacting method is used.  Volunteers will be placed at all known resting sites of the loras, so that the parrots can be counted as they wake up and fly away from their nesting areas.  These locations can be areas with trees, or they can be caves (the 2006 count included 25 different nesting areas).

To report a nesting area in your location or to volunteer for the count itself, please call 785-7749, or 717-8444 (STINAPA), or 717-8130 (DROB).  (Source:  STINAPA release)
