Sixth Annual Jong Bonaire Mini Fun Triathlon is Sunday, June 8, 2008

This coming Sunday, June 8th, 2008, Jong Bonaire will hold their sixth annual Mini Fun Triathlon, which will consist of three different sports activities:  swimming, biking, and running.

The race will begin at 7:00 AM at City Cafe on the oceanfront promenade.  Participants should arrive by 6:30 AM with their bicycles.

The distances have been adapted so that everyone can participate, especially since this is meant to be a fun event.  Professional athletes may participate, as well as any other adult, teen, or child.

In the Fun Category, the swimming distance will be 850 meters, the bike route, 11.6 kilometers, and the running route, 5 kilometers.  In the Pro Category, the swimming distance will be 1500 meters, the bike route, 23.2 kilometers, and the running route, 10 kilometers.

Registration will take place on Saturday, June 7th, 2008 from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM; participants will received an information package and event t-shirt at that time.  Registration can be as a team, in which case each of three team members will participate in only one sports activity, or registration can be done by individuals, who will then participate in all three activities.  The registration fee for teams is FL 55.00 (USD $30.90), or individual registration is FL 25.00 (USD $14.04).  After the triathlon, every participant may enjoy a meal and a drink from the event’s main sponsor, City Café.

Tickets may be purchased at Jong Bonaire, City Café and Freewieler.  All ticket proceeds will be used directly to continue the activities at Jong Bonaire for Bonaire’s youngsters and to develop new activities at the youth center.

It should be noted that, in conjunction with the event, the oceanfront promenade will be closed to vehicular traffic between Plasa Machi Mimi and the Bestuurskantoor.
