Participants in Today’s Duo Xtreme Bike Race Are True Road Warriors
Today marked the third annual Bonaire Duo Xtreme Mountain Bike Event with two routes covering Bonaire’s north and northeastern trails. Those who do the Xtreme are hardy souls on any given day, but today’s conditions tried the abilities of the best of them.

Mother Nature “prepped” the trails with three days of heavy rain that began last Wednesday, and she laid the final preparations beginning at 5:30 AM with another hour-long shower of rain, just before the starting gun at 6:30, that ensured the routes were slick, filled with puddles, so everyone would have mud facials by the end of the race!

But she wasn’t through yet. To keep the riders on their toes, Mother Nature provided “special effects” with thunder and lightning following the riders. Even with adverse conditions, the riders barely saw any loss of speed over last year’s times, with the first participants from the Pro route (51 kilometers) arriving back at the finish line in about 3-1/2 hours, and the first riders from the Xtreme route (83 kilometers) arriving about one hour later.

The finish line was at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino, where results were tallied while the participants enjoyed a well deserved lunch. Then, the winners were declared in each category (view the results by clicking here). A champagne shower in the gardens of the resort followed, with a weary but happy crew of riders. Congratulations to all! (Source: Bonaire Insider Reporter)
