Next CIEE Lecture is July 16th, 2008 About the World Bank Coral Reef Project’s Efforts
In a continuing lecture series, the CIEE Bonaire station will host a free public lecture by Roger Bradbury from the Australian National University from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on July 16th. The topic of this lecture will be, “How the World Bank Coral Reef Project is working with communities to help them manage their coral reefs.”
Roger Bradbury of CRTR (Coral Reef Targeted Research) will speak about the World Bank project, which is concerned with helping people globally manage reefs for sustainable economic use, delivery of ecosystem services, and conservation values.
Planned discussion topics include the building of management and decision support tools for stakeholders, and it will be demonstrated how this new approach is starting to yield interesting results. Robert and his team will also show some of the “games” and models which they use to help understand how people use reefs. The full project is the World Bank Coral Reef Targeted Research Project and their working group is the Modeling and Decision Support Working Group. Their work is predominantly with reef managers, policy makers, fishers, and reef-dependent communities.
Total time will be around 45 minutes to an hour. There will be snacks and drinks provided. Entry is free and everyone is invited. CIEE Bonaire is located at Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot #21. (Source: CIEE Bonaire)
