New Papiamentu-English Dictionary Launched; Book Signing Party is Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Back in 1992, Ms. Betty Ratzlaff-Henriquez, along with the Trans World Radio Dictionary Foundation, published the first complete dictionary providing English to Papiamentu and Papiamentu to English. The dictionary proved so popular, it quickly sold out, and hasn’t been available for many years. Now, Betty, along with Jong Bonaire, has completed and published the second edition of her popular dictionary, which will be available starting this week.

There will be a book-signing party on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Addo’s Bookstore at Kaya Grandi #36. Betty will be available to sign copies of the second edition dictionary, just released by Stichting Jeugdwerk Jong Bonaire. The book signing party will start at 5:00 PM.
Jong Bonaire has reprinted the dictionary as a fundraising effort for its after-school program for teens. Much of the income from the book will go to support activities for Jong Bonaire and also to help reprint the dictionary in the future.
This revised edition has over 100 words not in the first edition. Further, a discussion of the differences between Aruban Papiamentu and that of Bonaire and Curacao has also been added, along with an updated biography of the author.
Anyone who wishes to meet the author and have their book signed is invited to the book signing party at Addo’s Bookstore beginning Wednesday at 5:00 PM. (Source: Jong Bonaire)
Note Update June 11, 2008: The dictionary was officially launched at a press conference on Tuesday evening. Additional information about the dictionary was provided at that time. Click here to view it, in PDF format. (Source: Jong Bonaire)
