Getting to Bonaire from the U.S.; Flights to Curacao Diminished

As all know, American Airlines/American Eagle recently announced that direct, non-stop service from San Juan, Puerto Rico to Bonaire would be cut by four flights beginning September 3.  Additionally, it now appears that American Airlines has also cut their jet service to Curacao by 50%.

Traditionally, American Airlines has continued with two flights each way per day from Miami to Curacao.  Those passengers who could no longer find seats on the Eagle flight through San Juan could look to connect via Curacao and then take a regional carrier onward to Bonaire.

This will become markedly more difficult once American Airlines moves to one flight each way per day starting September 3rd, 2008, although on high-travel holidays such as Columbus Day (a popular Latin American holiday), American Airlines will provide two round-trips daily.

Since the jet will overnight in Curacao, the return flight to Miami is early--perhaps too early for those from Bonaire to connect.  Future scheduling for November does indicate a shift to a later morning departure, which may allow connections from Bonaire to arrive in time to make the flight.

As we learn more details about how to plan for your air travel needs to Bonaire, they will be posted on Bonaire Insider. (Source:  American Airlines web site)
