Flamingo Airport Bonaire (BON) Continues to be Open
Flamingo Airport on Bonaire continues to be open throughout the weather associated with the tropical system Omar, but only for those operating under IMC, Instrument Meteorological Conditions. This means that aircraft normally flying under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) cannot operate at this time.
Nearly all airlines operating into Bonaire are able and capable of flying IFR (Instrument Flight Rules). The most limiting factor is the wind and visibility conditions and it is up to each airline/captain to decide whether any of these factors are out of their performance operating limits.
However, it can be expected to experience delays/schedule adjustments in each airline’s operations. This is, of course, also a direct consequence of the weather conditions at their point of departure, i.e. Curacao. According to the meteorological report, an improvement in the weather conditions can be expected as of late this afternoon.
Those with flights in or out of Bonaire for today or tomorrow should contact their airline for the latest in schedule revisions or to confirm their airline is not affected in the interim. (Source: TCB-Bonaire)
