Dive Friends Bonaire Offers Guided Night Dives for Bonaire’s Coral Spawning Season
Corals and other marine creatures will begin their annual spawning shortly after the full moons in September and October. Dive Friends Bonaire is offering specially guided night dives during the evenings when spawning is predicted to take place.
Actually witnessing the corals when they spawn is a hit-or-miss experience, but those lucky enough to be in the water at the right time will experience an awesome dive, as all corals of a similar type spawn at once. Spawning generally begins anywhere from three days after the full moon to eight or nine days after the full moon. Spawning of stony corals, as well as invertebrates such as fire worms, Christmas tree worms, and touch-me-not sponges, generally occurs in either September or October.
Dive Friends Bonaire has posted the predicted times on their web site, and the chart (in PDF format) is available by clicking here.
