The Wounded Warriors are Honored as Bonaire Ambassadors

Since the last update on the visiting Wounded Warriors, they’ve continued to keep themselves busy working with film crews, meeting Bonaire’s Lt. Governor, and trying new restaurants.

On Tuesday morning, the warriors gathered on the dock to prepare for their dive while they were briefed by the NBC-affiliate TV crew which was filming them Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tuesday afternoon, all gathered on the deck at Habitat to have their portraits taken, and then they were escorted by the Bonaire Bikers to the Lt. Governor’s home.  There, Lt. Governor Domacasse and his wife, Lena, greeted the warriors, and, in a short speech, told them how special they were and how much the island of Bonaire appreciated their coming to visit.

Next, Ronella Croes from the Tourist Corporation Bonaire honored each warrior by presenting him with an ambassador medal, of special significance, since this honor is not usually given until a tourist has visited at least ten consecutive years.  After these honors, the warriors themselves provided awards of thanks--to all their sponsors, and then dinner was served.

On Wednesday, after working with the film crew, the group headed next to Patagonia Restaurant, where Ines, Pablo, Ines, and Pablito provided a feast for the entire group.

Thursday and Friday gave them time for other events--island tours, shopping in Kralendijk, and a lunch, once again sponsored by the Bonaire Talk Community, at City Cafe.

The warriors are scheduled to fly home tomorrow, providing Hurricane Dean doesn’t change their plans.  During this whirlwind week, the warriors have accomplished their mission--they have learned and mastered a new activity that they can pursue and enjoy for years alongside their families.
