Bonaire’s Museums Celebrate International Museum Day
Today, May 18th, is International Museum Day, and five out of Bonaire’s seven museums (two are closed due to a governmental holiday) are offering free admittance.
Each year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) chooses a new subject to celebrate--this year the topic is museums and our universal inheritance.
Today, five out of Bonaire’s seven museums will offer free admittance to anyone; this will serve to highlight the museums’ importance and meaning to the local people, as well as Bonaire’s visitors. It is the museums’ collective duty to protect Bonaire’s national culture and inheritance. Although the Museum Bonaire and Fort Oranje are closed today due to a governmental holiday, the remaining five museums (Museum Belua in Playa, Museum Washington Park, Museum Kas Krioyo in Rincon, Museum Mangasina di Rey in Rincon, and the documentary center Herensia Boneriano) will be open 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM today.
