Bonaire’s First Eco-Lodge, the Auriga EcoLodge, is Open and Accepting Guests
A unique new opportunity has recently presented itself for those wishing to come to Bonaire and truly “get away from it all.” The Auriga EcoLodge Bonaire, located at Rancho San Miguel, is now open.
Auriga is an excellent addition to an island which is working toward ecological and environmental improvements. The lodge is located about fifteen minutes from Kralendijk, and its remote location provides ample opportunity to view Bonaire’s flourishing bird life, diverse cacti, and prolific iguana population. The property is solar powered, and it was built with sustainable materials and with only limited quantities of plastic. The grounds feature many native trees and also have a preserved natural area. Expansion of native plants and trees is part of the ongoing plan for Auriga.
The area has access to trails and roads for hiking and biking in the nearby countryside and to the sea. Club Roomers Welcomes Back Jim Gilmour for an Evening of Contemporary Folk Music
Club Roomers will host a musical evening on Friday, April 16th, 2010, when Jim Gilmour returns to present an evening of contemporary folk music that is called, “Not your Daddy’s folk music.”
Bonaire’s own Gio Mercera will be accompanying Jim on keyboard. The evening will begin with Hotel Roomers’ usual Happy Hour with half-price drinks from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. An optional full BBQ buffet (all you can eat) will be served at 6:00 PM, for FL 35.00 (about $19.70), and the concert will begin at 7:00 PM. Admission is FL 15.00 (about $8.50) per person for a donation to the Club Roomers Charity Fund, but Club Roomers members are free. Mr. Lira is of Antillean birth, and he has more than twenty years of experience in the hotel, restaurant, and tourism industry within the Antilles. The Spa at Habitat Opens, Launches New Web Site
The Spa at Habitat has opened its doors just in time for the holiday season and it has launched a brand new web site offering a 10% discount on appointments made in advance.

The Spa at Habitat offers a full line of individual or couples massages by the sea, along with a large menu of nail care services or body treatments. Run by Omaira Nicolaas and Alda Dirksz, both of whom are well known in the spa world of Bonaire, this new addition will prove to be popular with guests staying in the northern hotels or even those in private villas in Sabadeco.
The Spa is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM through to 6:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Services for times other than these are by appointment only. Bonaire Oceanfront Villa Is Ready for 2009/2010 Season
With a villa ideally set up for divers and which can accommodate up to ten persons, Bonaire Oceanfront Villa 9 is pleased to announce that it has completed major renovations in 2009 and the property is now ready to accept divers and leisure vacationers during the upcoming high season in 2010. Over the past two years, the villa has received a variety of improvements that can only enhance the experience that divers will have when vacationing at the property.

The kitchen has been completely redone and enlarged to twice its previous size. It now sports all new appliances, including a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and coffeemaker, as well as new windows and cabinetry.
The villa’s outdoor living spaces have all been upgraded: The third-floor roof-top terrace has new terra cotta tile flooring, while the two bedroom balconies on the second floor have had roofs added to them, allowing all-day use regardless of the weather. The backyard covered patio has been updated, including new teak furniture. Lighting has been added to the seaside pavilion, so it can be enjoyed during evening hours.
The interior has also been refurbished with new furniture in the living area and a cable TV/DVD player and WIFI access. Three bathrooms have been totally renovated, while the other two have new tile and fixtures. All bedrooms have new split-unit air-conditioning, which offers quiet functioning as compressors are outside.
The entire exterior of the villa has been freshly painted, and the parking area enlarged to accommodate up to three vehicles.

Buddy Dive Resort Hosts Their Annual Planet Ocean Fest Underwater Photography Seminar
Buddy Dive Resort will once again host their Planet Ocean Fest this November/December, when noted photographers share their tips and knowledge with those wishing to improve upon their photographic skills.
This year, from November 28th until December 18th, John Wall, Manager of Buddy Dive Resort’s digital photo shop, will host the annual photo underwater photography seminar. The weekly program includes three (digital) photo classes and photo safaris (underwater). The price for this program is only $100 during this time-frame for guests of Buddy Dive Resort, Belmar Oceanfront Apartments, and Caribbean Club Bonaire. Bonaire Briefs--Island News and a Look at What’s Happening
Bonaire offers something for everyone--divers, snorkelers, adventurers, families and even single sun-seekers. Helping to make vacationing in Bonaire easy, relaxing and fun, here is some of the latest news from the island.
All Around the Island:
Bonaire Atelier Club is for artists who need set-up supplies and a place to paint. A shaded, open-air garden atelier is available at the JanArt Gallery, located at Kaya Gloria 7. Paint supplies are also available at the Club for a small fee for travelers who choose to leave their painting equipment at home. Easels, tables and accessories are free of charge. Iguanas and birds sometimes model for free. Local artist Janice Huckaby is on sight to assist in art coaching and tips upon request. Participants may also take part in Jan’s Art Workshops designed just for the Bonaire traveler, which can be arranged for “on location” paintings, as well as at the outdoor atelier at her gallery. These workshops range from two to three hours and a complete painting can be finished in one session. This is a great alternate activity for people who want to add something different to their Bonaire experience. The workshops focus upon Bonaire’s unique nature, both above and below sea level. Bonaire East Coast Diving has recently increased the number of dive sites they visit on Bonaire’s east coast to a total of five. Besides Funchie’s Reef and the White Hole, they’re also organizing trips to Black Rock, Spelonk, and Ramon’s Reef. On each dive, it’s common to see numerous turtles, tarpon, eagle rays and stingrays, and also sharks and manta rays on occasion. Bonaire Wedding Pros is a consortium of several Bonaire companies who have joined together to assist those getting married on Bonaire. Bonaire Windsurf Place announced the renovation of their website, which provides many great links that will be of interest to the Bonaire windsurfing visitor. Enjoy the live web-cam with two lenses that changes the view every ten minutes: one 90-degree angle and one telephoto lens, which look out over Lac Bay towards the east.
