Captain Don’s Habitat Announces Major Renovation and Expansion
Captain Don’s Habitat is pleased to announce the beginning of a major expansion/renovation project for the resort. Understanding the need to continually upgrade and improve the services and infrastructure for the discerning dive traveler of today, Habitat has begun the first phase of this two-phase project.
Phase one will consist of the construction of a new combination Dive Center, Retail Facility, Classroom, Photo Facility and Technical Diving Classroom in conjunction with a completely new 100 seat conference facility. The new facility will be centrally located between the current Dive/Conference facility and the main office area landward from the Deco Stop Bar and covered seating area overlooking the two dive piers.
The new facility will house the dive office, rental area, retail store with exclusive ScubaPro equipment, the Habitat logo clothing line, along with other souvenirs and sundry items. Capture Photo will also be housed in a new photo area to better serve the needs of guests interested in both topside and underwater photography. RecTek Scuba will have its own technical diving classroom for all of the training and preparation needs for technical diving guests. In addition, a new classroom will be located in the facility to serve guests with beginning or continuing diving education needs. The new conference room will seat 100 persons comfortably in a theater-style setting and will have state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment to further enhance the use of the room for business groups. The conference facility will also have the ability to be transformed into a classroom style setting or a banquet style setting with room to seat 50 persons for a private dinner function and, with the closer proximity to Rum Runners Restaurant, catering of such an event will be easier and more efficient.
Phase two will consist of the demolition of the current Dive/Conference facility and in its place 16 Deluxe Junior Suites will be constructed in 2 buildings housing 8 units each. There will be 4 ground floor and 4 upstairs units in each building with each having an incredible view of the ocean, Klein Bonaire and amazing sunsets. The units will be similar to the current Deluxe Ocean View rooms overlooking the pool and the ocean, but will differ on the inside with one king-sized bed, sitting area with sofa, chair and coffee table, small kitchenette with microwave, wet bar, sink and refrigerator. Amenities will include flat panel wall mounted TVs, telephone, wireless Internet, AC, full bath with tub, hair dryers, laptop safes and either a covered outside sitting area on the patio or balcony with an unparalleled view of the Caribbean Sea.
Completion of Phase One is scheduled for mid-December, 2008, and completion of Phase Two should occur late 2009. (Source: Dive News Wire)
