Zouk Comes to Bonaire’s Bon Bida Spa and Gym
Zouk is a style of rhythmic music originating from the French Caribbean islands, mainly from Guadeloupe and Martinique. Zouk means “party” or “festival” in the local French Creole spoken on these islands. And now, it comes to Bonaire with a new class which will teach how to dance to this favorite Caribbean rhythm.
Popular salsa instructor, Roy Franklin, will be teaching this four-week course which begins this Monday evening, July 11, 2011, at 8:00 PM. Each of the four classes will go for one hour and will be held in the classroom at Bon Bida Spa & Gym, located just north of the traffic rotary on Kaya Gobernador N. Debrot. Each class will build on the dance steps learned the week prior, so those interested must begin with the first class on Monday evening. The course is $40.00, but those who are enrolled in a salsa class for the same timeframe can enjoy a 50% discount on their second course.
The instructor, Roy, was the pioneer teacher of this style of dance in Holland during the 1990s, but he’s now on Bonaire and adding to his repertoire of dance styles that he teaches. Zouk is a sensual dance for couples, but those without dance partners may still enjoy the class, as there are many with whom to dance. For more information, or to register, call 717-7224. Bonaire Will Say “Ayo” to its WebCams
It was about eleven years ago when Jake Richter and Daniel Senie launched the Bonaire WebCams project on Bonaire, with four cameras, including an underwater camera, whereby the world could view Bonaire 24 hours a day. Since that time, the number of active cameras has varied significantly, with a peak of fourteen cameras running in 2010.
The Bonaire WebCams gave an outlet for its developers to share their passion about Bonaire with the world, as well as create a huge fan base, and garner a number of awards over the years. But it’s now the end of an era, and the Bonaire Insider has been informed that most likely the web site for the Bonaire Web Cams will go off-line at the end of August.
Everyone on Bonaire and around the world who used or watched the WebCams thanks Jake and Dan for their dedication to the project over the past eleven years, and wishes them much success for their future endeavors. (Source: Bonaire WebCams)
