Former NASA Astronaut, Charles Bolden, Concludes His Visits to Bonaire’s Schools

This past week, former NASA astronaut, Charlie Bolden, spent a week on Bonaire, visiting with Bonaire’s schoolchildren, and giving presentations to the general public.  His lectures were informative and engaging, and he gave inspiring messages to Bonaire’s youth:  “Work hard, and you can achieve your dreams!”

The Lt. Governor and his wife met Charlie and his family upon arrival at Bonaire’s Flamingo Airport on Saturday, November 25.  Sunday he met with trip sponsors, and Monday evening was a press conference, where Charlie announced the contest winners from the schools and presented their awards.

During the week, Charlie and his family (his wife and daughter were traveling with him) were kept busy visiting schools and meeting the youth of Bonaire.  In between school visits, he did manage to get in a bit of scuba diving.

The week’s events concluded with a presentation to the general public, where Charlie discussed his four space missions and explained various facets of space exploration.

Thanks go to the organizers of the event, Ben and Laura Buchbinder, as well as the numerous sponsors who made the trip possible.  Click here to view images of the various events of the week which are available on the Bonaire Insider Photo Gallery. (Source:  Bonaire Insider reporter)

Plaza Resort Bonaire has just announced their holiday schedule for special events over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve.  Executive chef, Chris Nesbitt, has chosen a selection of mouth-watering dishes for these special menus.

The holiday menus will begin on Christmas Eve with a choice of a special buffet menu at the Banana Tree Restaurant or a five-course dinner at the Tipsy Seagull (view these menus, in pdf).

Begin Christmas Day with an extended breakfast buffet in Caribbean Point Restaurant where special holiday delectables will be added to the normal menu.  A traditional Christmas Dinner buffet will be available at the Banana Tree Restaurant, or opt for a six-course dinner at the Tipsy Seagull (view these menus, in pdf).

Boxing Day, December 26th, you can enjoy a special beach BBQ at the Coconut Crash Beach Bar from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.  And then on New Year’s Eve, what has become a tradition at Plaza, a special BBQ and buffet will begin at 7:00 PM and continue on until late.  At midnight, toast the new year with a glass of champagne as you enjoy the fireworks, after which you can dance under the stars to the magic sound of Rumba, one of Curacao’s most popular bands (view these menus, in pdf).

RE/MAX Paradise Bonaire Homes and Caribbean WebCams Join Together for Bonaire’s New StreetCam

RE/MAX Paradise Bonaire Homes and Caribbean Web Cams LLC are pleased to announce that a new DowntownCam is available on Bonaire.  The DowntownCam, Bonaire’s latest cam, joins a popular roster of other Bonaire-based web cams, including the first permanent open water reef web cam in the world, along with five land-based web cams.  This new cam is located on Kaya Grandi, looking towards the north.

RE/MAX is pleased to be a part of the growing family of webcams on Bonaire.  Owner Bob Bartikoski states, “Since we are located just off Kaya Grandi on Bonaire, we wanted all our clients to be able to view the main street at any time, to remind them of the island.  All they have to do is visit the site, and they can view live images of Kralendijk.”

Images from the new DowntownCam are available for viewing at www.bonairewebcams.com.  The images are set to update every minute, and, as with all cams provided by Caribbean Web Cams, the current image is free to anyone who accesses the site.  Archive images are also available at www.bonairewebcams.com.  However, to view the archives, one must have a membership in Bonaire Web Cams, and different levels of membership are available at very reasonable fees, including a limited access free membership.

The Bonaire Web Cams have proven themselves to be very popular with visiting tourists from around the world, and have, on their own, became famous, from the award-winning underwater cam, to the beach cams, DonkeyCam, and WindsurfCam.  Many Bonaire visitors plan at least one trip to the cams to wave to family and friends back home and now the DowntownCam makes this very easy.  www.bonairewebcams.com receives an average of 200,000 visitors per month, with an average of 2,000,000 page views per month.
